ONSTREAM MEDIA HELPS POWER AMERICA ONLINE'S NEXT GENERATION ON-DEMAND VIDEO SEARCH SERVICES
Onstream Media Helps AOL Audiences Enjoy Easy Access to a Fully Searchable Database Containing Thousands of Regularly Updated Videos
POMPANO BEACH, FL – JULY 5, 2005 – Onstream Media Corporation ( OTC: ONSM), a leading online service provider of live and on-demand, rich media communications, announced today that it has been chosen by America Online (AOL) to help enable AOL’s new online video search services.
AOL is using Onstream’s video indexing technology to provide customers with fast, convenient access to thousands of videos, including news, weather, sports, movie trailers and music for the AOL® Video archive on the AOL® service and the AOL.com portal. As content providers send new videos to AOL, Onstream’s proprietary services automatically convert spoken words to text that is fully searchable by users. In addition, Onstream technology instantly captures thumbnails of video frames that AOL audiences can view prior to playing videos.
"AOL is committed to continually providing consumers with leading-edge services and the next generation AOL Video Search takes our online video initiatives to a new level," said Alex Blum, Vice President, Audience Product Management, America Online, Inc. "By leveraging best-in-class technology and services from Onstream we're able to provide the latest advances in online video - like automated speech-to-text translation and video frame thumbnails - that make it even easier to find and experience on-demand video content from entertainment to news."
“The expansion of our relationship with AOL demonstrates the growing recognition within the corporate marketplace for the ability and cost effectiveness of our Digital Media Services Platform to help organizations and businesses of any size to seamlessly manage the ever-increasing amount of digital information being utilized in their daily operations,” said Randy Selman, president and Chief Executive Officer of Onstream Media.
The expansion of Onstream services—automated speech-to-text translation of video content and instant creation of video frame thumbnails—enables AOL to further streamline video searching and viewing for its online audiences. For instance, users will now receive much more detailed responses to search queries because spoken words in videos are captured as part of searchable metadata. Previously, videos often had limited metadata associated with them, such as text in titles or a few keywords identified by content providers.
Automated creation of thumbnails supported by Onstream will enable AOL to instantly display multiple still frames of videos alongside video links so users can quickly determine if they are interested in viewing full segments. “From a Web user’s perspective, searching for and viewing videos has to be as fast and easy as finding and reading text online. Although delivering and managing video online is more complex, the costs and challenges—effective indexing, management, and retrieval of videos—have to be transparent to end users,” added Selman.
